I’m wishing Happy Birthday to the Queen today!
The Queen was born at 2.40am on 21 April 1926 in Mayfair, London. Elizabeth ascended to the throne on the 6th February 1952, and then in 1953, more than a year later, officially became Queen at her Coronation ceremony.
The reason for the wait is because the celebration of the Coronation is seen as inappropriate during the period of morning that follows the previous monarch.
During this time, the early 1950′s there was someone living an entirely different life and documenting her hopes and dreams. Coming from a life torn apart by World War Two, Trudy had come to the UK from Amsterdam at the age of 19.
Coming to study nursing in Rugby, England, within months met the man she ended up marrying. No guests at the wedding, just two witnesses, no honeymoon, but a trip to London Zoo. Entirely the opposite of the pomp and circumstance of the coronation.
Pale, beautiful, thin, afraid of the sound of planes, in a foreign country,Trudy suddenly saw a life that held promise and joy. Her pictures, all originals, drawn in 1951-52, reflect the life she so wanted to live.
Years later after Trudy passing away these drawings by a much loved Nanna resurfaced. The family felt the drawings were too beautiful to be hidden away in an old sketchbook so in honour of Trudy and her dreams, and thousands of women like her these drawings have been given new life.
The drawings are not nostalgic reflections of an era gone by, but were created at he time and are as authentic and original as any vintage artefact you might find. Vintage Trudy includes greeting cards and gift tags, aprons and cushion covers. The range will be expanding with new lines added as the venture grows. See more at their Etsy shop here Vintage Trudy
So… the prize is the two giclee prints featured above on high quality German Etching Paper and each print is A5 in size. These would look amazing on any wall!
